THE STORY OF THE OPERA
Early 16th century London was crowded, dirty, pestilential, and corrupt. It was a dangerous world. Colonel Fairfax has been condemned to death on sorcery charges. An hour before his death, he decides to marry. The Lieutenant arranges a marriage between him and the strolling player Elsie Maynard. Her partner and admirerer, Jack Point, gives his consent. Meanwhile, Sgt. Meryll has conspired to free Fairfax. When the crowd assembles to witness the execution, they panic at the news of the prisoner's escape. Elsie is unwillingly bound to the freed Fairfax, and Jack Point laments his love for the married girl!
Wilfred, the head jailor, is arrested for Fairfax's escape. He and Jack Point announce they have killed the prisoner — now Wilfred is released, and Jack Point is able to approach his beloved Elsie. But Elsie is wooed by the disguised Fairfax. Only Meryll and Phoebe know that "Leonard" is really the prisoner Fairfax. At Elsie's wedding to "Leonard", she learns the true identity of her betrothed — he is already her husband! Amidst loud rejoicing, the action rushes to its climax and ends on a somewhat surprising note.

The audience is respectfully but  urgently requested  to interrupt  the performance with applause whenever they deem it necessary.
